Juanfran Pérez, Secretary General of the PPCV, repeats Mayor’s Presumption of Innocence.
The Valencian Community Partido Popular (PPCV) has initiated disciplinary proceedings against Orihuela Mayor Pepe Vegara following news of his upcoming trial. The Criminal Court No. 1 of Orihuela has scheduled hearings for January 22 and 24 at 9:30 AM to address charges against Vegara and four other individuals.
The accused, all members of the board of directors of ITV Vega Baja SA and two additional companies, face allegations of falsifying commercial documents and committing tax-related crimes in connection with corporate tax and VAT for the fiscal year 2005.
In line with PPCV statutes and its Disciplinary Regulation Agreement, any public official facing the opening of oral proceedings in a judicial case is automatically subject to disciplinary measures.
Despite the legal developments, Juanfran Pérez, the PPCV’s Secretary General, emphasised the party’s commitment to the principle of presumption of innocence, stating, “We firmly believe in the innocence of the mayor, who has refused a plea deal with the Prosecutor’s Office and denies all of the charges against him.”
Pérez also clarified that the allegations do not pertain to corruption within Vegara’s public office. “The case involves events from over 20 years ago, well before he assumed public responsibilities, and relates to his private business activities,” he explained.
The trial marks a significant period for the Orihuela mayor, who will defend himself against charges of tax-related offenses and document falsification.
