The events honouring Miguel Hernández, following the annulment of his judicial proceedings, will take place on 10 December. Initially planned for October, these events were postponed due to mourning for the victims of the DANA in Valencia. This week, close associates of the widow of Hernández’s son confirmed the details after a respectful mourning period.

The first event, organized by the central government, will be held at the Madrid Auditorium at 12 noon. It will include speeches by the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, and the Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, along with Lucía Izquierdo, the widow of Miguel Hernández’s son and family spokesperson.

At 5:00 p.m. the poet’s family and friends will host an event at the Instituto Cervantes on Calle Alcalá. Minister Torres is expected to attend, alongside many other notable figures.

Orihuela’s favourite son, singer Joan Manuel Serrat, will also participate, along with Amparo Climent, Maite Blasco, lawyer Cristina Almeida, former Madrid mayor Manuela Carmena, Oriol Pámies, Natalia Zamora, and Grupo Teatro Expresión de Orihuela.

The poet’s family requested a pardon of the legal proceedings opened by Franco’s regime against Hernández. While most proposals passed, controversy arose when Orihuela City Council did not approve the motion due to disagreements between PP and Vox executives and PSOE.

Last October, Minister Ángel Víctor Torres’ cabinet announced the signing of an official document annulling the legal proceedings against Hernández. The Law of Democratic Memory allows families of those prosecuted during Franco’s regime to request annulment in writing, ensuring all political investigations from the dictatorship are declared null and void.
