Alicante, 11 December 2025 – The AP-7 Circumvallation of Alicante is now permanently toll-free, following a successful trial since July 2024. The move provides a free alternative to the heavily congested A-70 ring road, particularly for long-distance traffic, while improving connections across Alicante’s comarcas.
Transport Minister Óscar Puente highlighted the measure’s benefits for traffic flow and regional connectivity, while Alicante Mayor Luis Barcala praised it as a long-awaited step to ease congestion and improve mobility for commuters and heavy vehicles. SEITT will continue operating the road during a transitional period as the Ministry of Transport assumes full control.
It is hoped that the toll-free decision will strengthen public appeals in the Vega Baja to remove the two tolls at close to San Miguel and in La Zenia, with residents arguing that eliminating these barriers would further ease traffic and boost local economic activity in the area.
Deputy Txema Guijarro of Sumar stressed that while the AP-7 toll removal is a key step, long-term solutions should include expanded rail and metropolitan transport connections to reduce reliance on roads.
The permanent toll removal marks the culmination of years of driver demands for a faster, safer, and more sustainable alternative to the overburdened A-70.
