Murcia, April 15, 2025 – The Civil Guard in the Region of Murcia has uncovered an illegal auto repair workshop operating in a rural area of Fortuna. The makeshift workshop, run by a transport company, was set up inside an empty refrigerated truck container and located on agricultural land.

Authorities found the business was conducting mechanical work—such as oil changes, battery replacements, and tire changes—without any required licenses. The facility also included modular sheds and numerous vehicles, but lacked permits for operation and proper waste management systems.

The Civil Guard’s environmental protection unit (SEPRONA) opened an investigation following a tip-off from the public. When they inspected the site, they found uncontrolled waste storage, with spills contaminating the ground and posing a risk to rainwater runoff and local soil health.

The business failed to provide any permits or documentation to justify its activities. As a result, the Civil Guard filed multiple reports for potential violations of:

  • The Integrated Environmental Protection Law (Law 4/2009)
  • The Industry Law (Law 21/1992)
  • Land Use Regulations

The case has been reported to the Fortuna Town Council, the Murcia Regional Environmental Department, and the Segura River Basin Authority.

Violations of this type can result in fines of up to €10,000 for operating without a municipal license and up to €6,001 for lacking industrial registration.
