The Guardia Civil of the Region of Murcia, in coordination with the Prison Authorities, has carried out an operation at the Murcia II Penitentiary Centre in Campos del Río, which resulted in the arrest of a woman for allegedly attempting to smuggle drugs into the facility.
The incident occurred when prison security personnel, as part of routine visitor screenings, observed suspicious behaviour in a woman who was about to enter the ‘vis a vis’ visitation area.
Following a thorough inspection, authorities discovered that she was concealing several types of drugs and a small mobile phone, allegedly with the intention of smuggling them into the prison during her visit.
The woman had tried to evade security checks by hiding the items in her clothing. The phone was of particularly small size, presumably designed to go unnoticed.
In total, officers seized over 10 grams of heroin, 16 grams of cocaine, and 50 grams of hashish.
She was immediately taken into custody on suspicion of drug trafficking.
Security controls at the facility, including scanning devices, personal searches, and active surveillance during visits, are designed to prevent the entry of prohibited items. These measures play a critical role in maintaining safety and preventing new criminal activity within the prison.
