The Orihuela Council has launched a tender for the asphalting and accessibility improvement project around La Matanza Square. The project, with an investment of €60,000, aims to renew the pavement of several streets and improve access to the Senior Citizens’ Centre by constructing an accessible ramp.

The works will focus on asphalting Mar Negro Street (332 meters) and Calle Mar Egeo (two sections of 204 meters and 90 meters). The project includes clearing, full asphalting with a 5 cm thick layer, and horizontal road markings. The current pavement has potholes and wear, making it difficult for vehicles and causing discomfort to residents.

A key part of the project is the construction of a 22-meter-long, 1.8-meter-wide accessible ramp on Juan Carlos I Street, providing safer access to the Senior Citizens’ Centre. This ramp will be built with anti-slip granite and will comply with accessibility regulations.

Additionally, there will be adjustments to infrastructure, including the raising of manholes and adjustments to the pavement height. The project is expected to take two months to complete and is part of the 2018 participatory budget. The City Council is also working on a wider asphalting plan for the municipality to improve roads throughout Orihuela.
