Orihuela Council has carried out improvement works on several rural roads that were in poor condition, making it difficult for residents to travel and access agricultural properties.

The work targeted Camino La Traviesa, Camino Los Barrios, and Camino La Loma in La Matanza, as well as on Camino Travesía Arroba Rincón del Cencerro in the district of Desamparados.

Councilor for Infrastructure, Víctor Valverde, emphasized the importance of these improvements, stating that “these are highly frequented roads that provide access to agricultural areas, making their maintenance crucial for mobility in these rural zones.”

He explained that the roads had deteriorated significantly, with potholes and uneven surfaces that made vehicle passage difficult and posed safety risks for residents. “To address these issues, we carried out spreading, compacting, and watering of artificial gravel to strengthen the road surface and ensure safer travel,” Valverde said.

The upgrades included levelling the ground and applying a layer of artificial gravel to enhance stability and durability. This initiative will not only improve access for local residents but also benefit farmers by allowing them to transport machinery and goods more safely.

These works are part of a broader rural road maintenance and improvement plan launched by the Orihuela City Council to enhance accessibility and safety throughout the municipality. “We will continue preserving and improving our roads, especially in rural districts, where they are essential for both agricultural activities and daily life,” Valverde concluded.
