Novelda C.F. 2 – C.D. Montesinos 2
The classic football phrase “a game of two halves” perfectly sums up last Sunday’s match in Novelda.
Montesinos started poorly, looking sluggish, uninspired, and second-best across the pitch. Novelda took full advantage, scoring twice within the first 17 minutes to take control of the game. By halftime, we were struggling, and the whistle couldn’t come soon enough.
Our frustration deepened just before the break when we were awarded a penalty. However, Gonzalo’s spot-kick lacked power, allowing the Novelda goalkeeper—who had already dived the wrong way—to recover and collect the ball with ease.
Half-time: 2-0
Manager Willy made decisive changes during the interval, bringing on Paco and Ivo for Ousamma and Ruiz, shifting to a more attacking formation. The impact was immediate, with Montesinos dominating the second half, pushing Novelda back, and creating multiple chances.
The comeback began in the 56th minute when Esquiva finished in a crowded penalty area to make it 2-1.
Novelda had only occasional breakaway opportunities, while Montesinos continued to push for an equalizer. The momentum swung further in our favor in the 69th minute when a Novelda player—on the pitch for just three minutes—was sent off for striking Xavi.
Despite relentless pressure, it seemed the equalizer would not come. Then, in the final moments, Abdul, who had come on in the 73rd minute, finished off a superb pass to level the score at 2-2.
Even in stoppage time, Montesinos pressed forward in search of a winner, which their second-half performance fully deserved. When the final whistle blew, Novelda’s players looked relieved, while Monte’s players and fans were left frustrated at not taking all three points.
This result leaves C.D. Montesinos in 6th place after 22 matches.
