On March 20, 2025, over 50 fifth-grade students from seven schools in the Vega Baja region participated in the 5th School Alcachofa Olympics at the Sadrián Stadium in Almoradí. The students took part in nine activities focusing on the region’s prized Alcachofa (artichoke), testing their sports skills, knowledge, and creativity.

The event included schools from Almoradí (Heredades, Canales y Martínez, Santa María de la Huerta, Manuel de Torres, Pascual Andreu), Orihuela (Francisco Girona), Callosa de Segura (Primo de Rivera), and Cox (Virgen de las Virtudes). The aim was to introduce students to the agricultural importance of the Alcachofa in a fun and engaging way.

Activities included a relay race using an Alcachofa as the baton, shooting into a goal (a container used for collecting Alcachofas), a math problem related to the industry, and a true/false quiz on Alcachofa cultivation. One of the most enjoyable activities was the “Rap of the Alcachofa,” where students showcased their artistic and literary talents.

The winner of the event was Pascual Andreu School from Almoradí, followed by Santa María de la Huerta School (Almoradí) in second place, and Primo de Rivera School (Callosa de Segura) in third. Francisco Girona School (Arneva-Orihuela) placed fourth.

Antonio Ángel Hurtado, President of the Alcachofa Vega Baja Association, praised the event as a celebration of the region’s agriculture, ensuring the younger generation understands the territory’s richness. Almoradí’s mayor, María Gómez, thanked all the participating schools for their enthusiasm and commitment to teaching students about the region’s agricultural heritage.
