On Tuesday Orihuela held a ceremony to present certificates to distinguished tourist establishments and services in the municipality as part of the Integral System for Tourist Quality in Destinations (SICTED).

A total of 8 businesses received the distinction for the first time, while 22 renewed their recognition for their commitment to continuous improvement in tourism quality. Currently, Orihuela boasts 56 companies holding this prestigious distinction.

The event was attended by Orihuela’s Mayor, Pepe Vegara; the Councilor for Tourism, Manuel Mestre; and the Secretary of the Orihuela Chamber of Commerce, José Adolfo Medina Navarro, who presented the awards to the honourees.

SICTED is a program promoted by the State Secretariat for Tourism in collaboration with the Generalitat Valenciana, Turisme Comunitat Valenciana, the Chambers of Commerce, and local entities. Its methodology encourages collaboration between the public and private sectors through training, working groups, and improvement projects aimed at ensuring the quality of tourist destinations.

During his speech, the Councilor for Tourism, Manuel Mestre, emphasized the importance of this recognition, stating, “This joint effort has a direct impact on our municipality, as each of you, through your work, contributes to the continuous improvement of Orihuela and, consequently, enhances the experience of those who visit us.”

He also highlighted the key role of municipal services in tourism excellence, saying, “In Orihuela, we are an excellent example of this, with distinguished services such as the Police, municipal museums, and tourist offices. It is essential that tourists perceive, from the moment they arrive to their departure, that they are in a destination that offers quality in every aspect, and we can proudly say that our municipality is one of those destinations.”

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Orihuela, Pepe Vegara, pointed out, “Orihuela offers a range of tourist attractions that make it a reference in Eastern Spain, and all the agents involved in improving that offer deserve recognition. This is what we are celebrating today, because everyone receiving their distinction today contributes to making Orihuela a quality tourist destination.”
