A Civil Guard officer from Santa Pola is set to stand trial on Wednesday, March 5, at the Alicante Provincial Court for allegedly disclosing confidential information about arrests.

The High Court of Justice of the Valencian Community (TSJCV) reports that the Public Prosecutor’s Office is seeking a three-year prison sentence, along with a two-year suspension from public service, for a crime of violating secrets.

According to the prosecution, between September 2020 and February 2021, the officer used his position to access sensitive investigative information and shared details of arrests with another man, who is also on trial.

The prosecution is seeking the same sentence for both defendants. The hearing will take place at 9:30 a.m. in the Eleventh Section (Elche).

WOMAN ACCUSED OF DEFRAUDING ELDERLY VICTIM ALSO FACES TRIAL

On the same day, a separate trial will be held in the Third Section of the court, where a woman is accused of defrauding an elderly woman in Elda.

The prosecution alleges that the defendant met the 82-year-old victim in January 2019 while sharing a taxi. Learning that the woman lived alone and had children residing in France, the defendant falsely claimed to be a lawyer and mentioned that she was staying in a hotel. The elderly woman then invited her to move into her home, where there were vacant rooms.

Taking advantage of their cohabitation, the accused allegedly memorized the victim’s card security number and used it without her knowledge. Between February and March 2019, she reportedly withdrew cash from ATMs and purchased jewellery worth over €20,000 using the victim’s card.
