ALDI celebrates the first anniversary of its logistics centre in Sagunto (Valencia) after surpassing initial performance expectations. Since its launch in February 2024, the distribution centre has handled over 530,000 pallets—exceeding the projected 500,000.
Located on a 77,500 m² site, the facility has an operational area of 32,000 m². It manages an average of 60 inbound and outbound trailers daily, equating to around 8,500 truckloads in its first year. Additionally, approximately 9.5 million boxes are processed annually at the Sagunto facility.
This centre was established to support ALDI’s expansion along the Mediterranean, servicing stores across Castellón, Valencia, Teruel, northern Alicante, and the Balearic Islands. It also plays a key role in ALDI’s growth strategy in the Levante region, complementing its other logistics hub in San Isidro (Alicante).
ALDI’s Growth in the Valencian Community
The Valencian Community is Spain’s third-largest region for ALDI, home to 77 stores, including eight new openings in the past year. The company employs over 1,200 people in the region, with 200 new hires in 2024 alone.
ALDI continues to expand in 2025, having opened a new store in Valencia’s Vara de Quart neighbourhood in January. Additionally, all stores affected by the Dana storm have now reopened, with the final store in Albal resuming operations on February 12.
Over the past three years, ALDI has doubled its logistics capacity in Spain, opening over 100 new stores nationwide. The company now operates seven logistics centres, over 470 supermarkets, and employs more than 7,500 workers.
Efficiency and Sustainability in Sagunto
The expansion of logistics centres has helped ALDI reduce delivery distances by 269,578 km, optimizing transport routes to maintain freshness and quality while minimizing environmental impact and reducing costs.
The Sagunto distribution centre prioritizes sustainability and energy efficiency. It features 10,700 m² of solar panels, covering 85% of its daily energy needs, and uses aerothermal heating and cooling. The facility also includes high-efficiency LED lighting with motion detection, natural light enhancements for worker comfort, and water recycling systems for industrial refrigeration and irrigation.
Despite challenges such as the Dana storm, which required operational adjustments, the centre has demonstrated strong adaptability and continuous improvement. ALDI remains committed to efficient logistics, product availability, and maintaining low prices for customers.
