The Councillor for Equality, Agustina Rodríguez, has presented the program of events planned to mark International Women’s Day (March 8th). Throughout the month, various activities will take place in collaboration with local organizations from the Equality Board, aiming to honor women who have fought and continue to fight for their rights, equality, and a fairer society, said Rodríguez.

EXTENSIVE 8M PROGRAM

The schedule kicks off on March 3rd with an exhibition on feminist role models, organized by the Clara Campoamor Women’s Association. The exhibition will open at 7:30 PM at the María Moliner Library and remain on display until March 31st.

On March 4th, a theatre play titled “Arturo y Clementina”, aimed at 2nd and 3rd-grade students, will be performed at the Teatro Circo Atanasio Die in two sessions (9:30 AM and 11:00 AM).

That same day, Cruz Roja Orihuela will set up an information point on gender equality at the Marqués de Molins market from 10:00 AM. Additionally, on March 6th, the María Moliner Public Library will host a conference titled “Porn Socialization and Its Influence on Sexual Violence”, presented by Carmen Ruiz.

KEY EVENTS ON MARCH 8TH – INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

The Glorieta Gabriel Miró will be the main venue for the day’s events, starting at 11:00 AM with a children’s and youth festival promoting gender equality.

In the evening, at 7:00 PM, the International Women’s Day March will take place, starting at the Orihuela Town Hall and concluding at Glorieta Gabriel Miró, where an exhibition from the Cruz Roja Orihuela recycling workshop, titled “Building Equality”, will also be displayed.

In Orihuela Costa, on March 8th, the La Zenia Boulevard shopping centre will host a concert at 12:00 PM, titled “In Rhythm with Equality”, featuring singer Carolina Reymundo.

On March 9th, at 12:00 PM, Glorieta Gabriel Miró will host the concert “The Power of Music in Equality”. Later in the month, on March 26th, a workshop titled “Healthy Love”, led by Isa Duque (“Piscowoman”), will be held at the Auditorio de La Lonja.

The program concludes on March 30th with a concert by the Unión Lírica Orcelitana (ULO), titled “Legendary Women”, at the Teatro Circo Atanasio Die.

EQUALITY GUIDE FOR PUBLIC OFFICIALS

Councillor Agustina Rodríguez, who also oversees Human Resources, has introduced a new guide for Orihuela’s public administration staff, designed to reinforce the city’s commitment to gender equality policies.

The guide aims to debunk myths and misinformation, highlight benefits for employees, and provide a glossary of key terms in an accessible and straightforward language. It will serve as a foundation for gender equality training for all municipal staff, Rodríguez concluded.
