February 26, 2025 – The Civil Guard, as part of “Operation Teren,” has solved the murder of a 61-year-old man whose lifeless body was found inside his home in Haro (La Rioja).
Five people—three men and two women, aged between 39 and 44—have been arrested for their direct or indirect involvement in the crime. They are suspected of various degrees of participation in offenses including murder, violent robbery, and belonging to a criminal group. All of them were part of the victim’s close circle, and one of the women had been in a romantic relationship with him for five years.
Three of the suspects directly participated in the murder, using extreme violence. They restrained and brutally beat the victim, leaving him no chance to defend himself.
Operation “Teren”
The investigation began on September 7, when the victim’s body was discovered in his home in Haro.
Forensic experts examined the crime scene, both inside and outside the property. Investigators also interviewed numerous individuals from the victim’s personal and social circles.
Analysis of the evidence and witness statements led authorities to determine that the murder was motivated by the theft of money and drugs.
As the investigation progressed, suspicions cantered on a family-based criminal group in Haro. One of its members had previously been in a long-term relationship with the victim.
The group had carefully planned and coordinated the crime, choosing a local holiday with large crowds to avoid drawing attention. In the hours leading up to the murder, they monitored the victim’s movements to ensure the theft was successful while also eliminating any potential evidence that could link them to the crime.
Once investigators gathered enough evidence to implicate the group, all five suspects were arrested and their homes were searched.
The investigation was led by the Judicial Police Unit of the Civil Guard in La Rioja, with support from the Criminalistics Laboratory, the Canine Unit, and the Rapid Action Group (G.A.R.). The operation was coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and directed by the Investigating Judge of Haro’s Court No. 2.
