Catral-Castrum C.F. 3 v C.D. Montesinos 5
We kicked off the weekend with a Friday evening away match against Catral, and after delivering our best performance of the season, maybe we should consider switching all our remaining home games to Friday nights!
This wasn’t the sluggish and unadventurous display we’ve seen at times this season. On the contrary, we were hungry, alert, and full of intent. In fact, it’s fair to say we could have won by an even greater margin against a team that was one point and one place above us before the game.
Willy set up our team with four central defenders—Fano positioned just in front of the back line—with Ousamma, Xavi, and Goku ahead of Pablo in goal. On paper, it looked like a defensive setup, but in reality, it was anything but.
Willy and his coaching staff had clearly done their homework on Catral, exploiting their left side time and again. Luis Carlos and Manu connected well, repeatedly finding space in the left side of Catral’s defense.
The first 45 minutes were nothing short of outstanding. Many of us in the crowd couldn’t help but ask ourselves, “Is this really our team?” It was a thrilling performance.
Goalscorers for the match:
9′ Jorge Esquiva (0-1)
28′ Ousamma (0-2)
32′ Catral pulled one back (1-2)
60′ Ousamma (1-3)
67′ Catral responded (2-3)
77′ Catral equalized (3-3)
88′ Own goal (3-4)
90′ Anderson (3-5)
A special mention goes to Anderson, who won a penalty at 74 minutes, but the Catral keeper made a brilliant save—he had an excellent game.
This was a fast-paced, aggressive match that we fully deserved to win. With all the weekend’s results in, we moved back up to 5th place.
It’s also worth noting that this week’s league results were all over the place, with teams near the bottom picking up points against those at the top.
Man of the Match, chosen by our travelling supporters, was awarded to Xavi, our number 15, who was once again outstanding (although it could’ve gone to several players).
Next week, we face a tough challenge away at CD Jávea, who claimed the top spot after this weekend’s results. It’s our longest journey of the season, so let’s show up and support YOUR team!
