The Socialist Party (PSOE) has condemned the Orihuela City Council and the Generalitat Valenciana for failing to maintain the municipality’s public schools. Despite two approved budgets in recent years, investment in school infrastructure remains minimal, worsening the deterioration of educational facilities.

The PSOE highlights serious maintenance issues, including structural damage, deteriorated playgrounds, and inadequate restroom conditions. The situation is particularly dire at the Antonio Sequeros Special Education Centre, where families have raised concerns over extreme classroom temperatures, poor lighting, and unsafe recreation areas.

Instead of addressing the problem, the PSOE accuses the local government of dismissing complaints as “fake news.”

The party also criticizes the paralysis of the Edificant Plan, which was meant to provide funding for school improvements, and the absence of a maintenance contract, forcing schools to rely on emergency fixes.

While the Education Councilor, Vicente Pina, has promised a maintenance contract in the next quarter, the PSOE doubts its feasibility, citing a lack of allocated funds.

In response, the PSOE has submitted a proposal demanding urgent repairs at Antonio Sequeros and immediate action to establish a proper school maintenance contract. They urge the government to stop delaying and invest in ensuring safe, accessible learning environments.
