Love was in the air (still close enough to Valentine’s Day, me thinks to use that analogy). A dewy start up at “The Hills” this morning for a slightly reduced field of 41 for the first game of our President’s Trophy, with people suffering the dreaded flu that seems to be so generous in passing itself around currently.
The forecast was nice, but not as nice as the preceding days of 24c and it truly didn’t disappoint very quickly! You can’t complain about over 20c as it is February and many of the players’ native countries are still in the throes of very cold weather. Layering was so passé today…
The course didn’t disappoint, the greens were in great condition, as was the whole course, bearing in mind other courses’ greens and how over-used they currently are. There were some little “in four ball comps” going on and handshakes were spied on various greens with matches clearly being won.
Money certainly changed hands. Back at the beautiful setting of the clubhouse, sustenance was imbibed and late afternoon sunshine was enjoyed.
The yellow tees and pin positions were like chalk and cheese compared to the last time we played here in January (thankfully).
The scores today ended up as follows:
Gold: Barry Roehrig (aka BTB) (34 points)
Silver: Peter Spinks (33 points)
Bronze: Yvonne Davies (38 points) and a fabulous, best score of the day
Lots of “Twos” this week, which means nobody got rich and was divided between Alan Bryce, Steve Davies, Darren Strugnell, Robin Eastman, Mike Stoff, Dave Rowe and Carmel McCann. Nearest the Pins were Barry Roehrig (5), Nigel Wilks (7), Darren Strugnell (10), Paul Kelsall (15) and Mike Stott (17). Dave Blackburn won the football card.
Vistabella for our third Eclectic meet next week which is already fully booked with a reserve list running. As a note, our membership is unfortunately closed but guests can register on the reserve list on our website (smgs.org).
The phantom photo-bomber reappeared this week – I need to brush up on my Photoshop skills – anyway – Left to Right: “Photobomb” Tony Smale, Lee Eastman (Captain), Barry Roehrig “aka BTB” (Gold), Yvonne Davies (Bronze), Norman McBride (Abacus with his wine!) and Peter Spinks (Gold).
