The Socialist Party (PSOE) has raised concerns in the Orihuela City Council about the poor state of road maintenance in Orihuela Costa. They are demanding an immediate solution to ensure at least a minimal level of service.

PSOE spokesperson Carolina Gracia expressed doubts about the government’s ability to meet promised deadlines, citing previous delays in maintaining green areas.

Gracia criticized the government’s handling of the situation, pointing out that only three municipal workers have been assigned to a task previously managed by a private company. She warned that this lack of resources makes it impossible to provide adequate maintenance. The PSOE is urging the government to take immediate action to prevent further deterioration.

Additionally, PSOE representative Isidro Grao formally requested a council meeting to clarify the government’s sudden announcement regarding the transfer of maintenance services to a municipal company.

However, the mayor did not respond and instead addressed the matter briefly in a general meeting. Gracia accused the government of failing to take meaningful action since October, leaving residents without essential services.

The government has indicated that a new management model could be presented within three weeks, but Gracia remains sceptical, noting that previous promises have lacked concrete commitments.

The PSOE is demanding a temporary solution to reinforce the service with more personnel and resources, warning that neglecting road and infrastructure maintenance increases the risk of accidents.

Finally, the PSOE is questioning why payments to the private company previously responsible for the service have been withheld since April.

Gracia compared this to past government failures, such as issues with school transportation and other essential services, arguing that the administration’s inaction is causing unnecessary disruptions.
