Airlines operating at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport have scheduled 14.7 million seats for the summer season (March 30–October 25), reflecting a 3.4% increase from 2024. This solidifies the airport’s position as Spain’s fifth busiest, though it remains behind Málaga, which offers 20.9 million seats.

Major airlines expanding their presence include Ryanair, adding new routes to Austria and Poland, easyJet, increasing ticket sales by 12% with new flights to Athens and Naples, and Jet2.com, growing its UK connections by 11%. In total, the airport will offer 233 routes, including new destinations like Bordeaux and Chisinau.

Spain’s airport network, managed by Aena, has scheduled 246.8 million seats for summer 2025, with Madrid and Barcelona leading in traffic. UK, Germany, and Italy remain key international destinations from Alicante, reflecting strong demand for travel to and from the Costa Blanca.

Speeding Up Boarding with €3.4M Project

Meanwhile, on Monday, Aena awarded a €3.4 million contract to Vilor Infraestructuras to enhance boarding efficiency at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport. The project will add stairwells to ten boarding gates, allowing passengers to board and disembark simultaneously from both the front and rear doors. This aims to reduce waiting times and optimize gate usage.

The construction, set to last 23 months, follows a successful trial in 2020 at four remote gates. The initiative is part of Aena’s broader investment plan, which includes an Airport Management Centre, improved air conditioning, a photovoltaic plant, and a planned terminal expansion to accommodate 26 million passengers annually. Additionally, a €17.4 million taxiway project is awaiting approval.
