The Pilar de la Horadada Town Council has initiated the process of merging its two health centres. Since the inauguration of the new facility in November 2019, the Council has been clear about its goal to unify both buildings, currently separated by a street.

In July, during a visit to the municipality, Mayor José María Pérez discussed the initiative with Carlos Mazón, president of the Generalitat Valenciana, who expressed his support. As a result, in the January Plenary Session, the municipal government approved the transfer of the land to the Ministry of Health to facilitate the unification.

This decision includes granting the 317.11-square-metre municipal plot on Calle Murcia to the Generalitat. The area is currently closed to traffic using flower pots and benches to ease patient movement between the two buildings. The proposed project involves constructing a new structure that will connect both centres, allowing for seamless access for patients and healthcare professionals while consolidating services.

At present, the old centre accommodates Primary Care, Family and Community Nursing, Social Work, and X-ray services. The newer facility hosts paediatric Primary Care, midwifery, a rehabilitation gym, and specialised care, including rehabilitation, psychology, dentistry, dental hygiene, and ENT services.

One of the biggest challenges in the current setup is the emergency service, which is split between the two buildings. The old centre operates from 8:00 to 21:00, while the new one covers the night shift from 21:00 to 8:00. This division has been a source of frustration for both patients and healthcare workers.

Councillor for Health Nieves Moreno reaffirmed the Generalitat’s commitment to the project, stating, “We are doing everything in our power to expedite the process and ensure that the Generalitat can carry out this work as soon as possible.”
