The “Caballero Cubierto” is a distinguished honor in Orihuela’s Semana Santa (Holy Week) celebrations, awarded to an individual who has made significant contributions to the city’s religious and cultural traditions.

In 2025, Dr. Amadeo Valoria Martínez, a psychiatrist and esteemed member of the Orihuela community, has been selected for this honor. Born on October 8, 1958, Dr. Valoria has been deeply involved in Orihuela’s Semana Santa from a young age.

He has served as a Nazareno in the Cofradía de El Perdón, was a Porta-Guión in 2004, and co-founded the Hermandad de los Pilares de la Soledad, where he served as vice president until 2016.

Additionally, he has been a member of the Cantores de la Primitiva Pasión Federico Rogel for 27 years and was the glosador of the Pregón de Los Aramos in 2017.

Dr. Valoria’s professional achievements include serving as the president of the Unión Lírica Orcelitana, being named Ilustre Caballero of the Real Orden de San Antón de Orihuela in 2022, and receiving the Premio a la Trayectoria Profesional from the Unión Murciana de Hospitales y Clínicas.

He is also a member of the musical group “Ritmo Rancio,” which collaborates with various charitable organizations, and has authored stories, notably “Por un tubo,” inspired by the restoration of the organ in the Cathedral of Orihuela.

The appointment of Dr. Valoria as Caballero Cubierto for the 2025 Semana Santa underscores his unwavering dedication to Orihuela’s cultural and religious heritage.

He will carry the standard during the solemn procession of the Santo Entierro de Cristo on Holy Saturday, a role he approaches with great honor and responsibility.
