Orihuela Costa is set to get it’s second health centre. This was confirmed by the President of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, during his visit to Orihuela to inaugurate the Orihuela Private Water Court this Saturday.
Residents of Orihuela Costa have long demanded this addition due to the growing population, which has rendered the existing health centre insufficient throughout the year, not just during the summer months.
Mazón explained that, after several meetings with the Orihuela City Council, they concluded that expanding the current health centre is not feasible. Therefore, they have now decided to build a new, comprehensive, and different health centre. The Generalitat has already initiated the necessary procedures, including the land transfer and preparation of the preliminary project.
“This new health centre is what Orihuela deserves and which it should have had years ago. We are committed to making it happen,” said Mazón.
He clarified that, while it is a joint effort with the Orihuela City Council, the Generalitat will finance the project entirely and will keep the public informed of each step and administrative phase.
This announcement follows the news of a private hospital being constructed on the coast and the opposition’s complaints about the lack of investment in health infrastructure in the Vega Baja.
The demand for a second health centre in Orihuela Costa has been a persistent issue for residents. As the population in the area has continued to expand, the existing health centre has struggled to meet the needs of the community. Locals have long voiced their concerns about the insufficiency of medical facilities, especially considering the year-round demand, not just during the summer months when the population swells.
This morning’s announcement by Mazón is a testament to the years of effort put in by the community.
