The Department of Tourism has unveiled a series of cultural and nature-focused routes for February, designed to showcase the rich historical, artistic, and natural heritage of the municipality. All routes will take place in Spanish.
The first activity kicks off on Saturday, February 1, with the “Three Gothic Treasures” tour. Participants will visit the Cathedral, the Church of Saints Justa and Rufina, and the Church of Santiago, three of the city’s oldest and most iconic temples. This route offers an in-depth exploration of Orihuela’s Gothic art and architecture.
Other cultural highlights include:
Sunday, February 2: A tour of selected works from the Museum of Sacred Art, focusing on pieces of exceptional artistic value.
Saturday, February 15: A cultural legacy tour of Orihuela, featuring stops at key landmarks such as the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de Monserrate.
Thursday, February 20: The “Afternoon of Convents” tour, a special itinerary highlighting historically significant convents.
San Isidro Murals Route: A guided walk through a neighbourhood brimming with art inspired by the life and works of Orihuela poet Miguel Hernández.
For Nature lovers there are also several scenic routes:
Thursday, February 6: “Sunset from Campoamor,” offering breathtaking views of the Orihuela Costa at dusk.
Sunday, February 16: A walk along the “Cliffs of Cabo Roig,” showcasing the dramatic beauty of the coastal landscape.
Saturday, February 22: The “Almond Blossom Route in Torremendo,” a 7-kilometer trail that celebrates the natural beauty of the almond trees in bloom, a sight unique to this time of year.
Notable additions to this year’s program include the detailed exploration of the Museum of Sacred Art’s selected works and the Almond Blossom Route in Torremendo, which beautifully combines nature and picturesque landscapes.
