A devastating ski lift accident in Spain’s Pyrenees mountain range has left at least 30 people injured, with nine suffering life-threatening injuries and eight in serious condition. The incident occurred at the Astún ski resort, located near the French border.
According to reports from local authorities, the accident happened on one of the resort’s chair lifts. Witnesses described the event as a sudden and chaotic failure of the lift system. “It’s like a cable has come off,” one witness told Spanish state broadcaster TVE. “The chairs bounced, and people were thrown off.”

Jorge Azcón, President of the Government of Aragon, was promptly informed of the tragedy and has traveled to the scene to oversee rescue and recovery efforts. The prime minister confirmed that he had spoken with Mr. Azcón to offer the full support of the Spanish government in responding to the crisis.
In addition, a telephone hotline has been established for families seeking information about those affected by the accident.
