The Orihuela Costa community still doesn’t have a clear timeline for the opening of its new prefabricated school. Despite ongoing construction on the municipal plot at Calle Níspero, the Ministry of Education has yet to announce when the facility will become operational.

During the recent holidays, the City Council signed the acceptance certificate for the prefabricated classrooms and last week, Councillor for Education Vicente Pina and the future headmaster of the school, Félix Sotos, who currently teaches at Playas de Orihuela school, oversaw the delivery of furniture intended for the classrooms.

However, municipal sources could not confirm when the school would be fully functional, only noting that the final shipments of furniture have been received.

After a prolonged administrative process, the Council finally awarded the contract to prepare the municipal site, where the existing Playas school has been housed in temporary structures since last September. The construction work is reportedly nearing completion, with only a few weeks remaining for tasks such as asphalting and repainting the playground. However, basic utilities like electricity and water are still not operational.

The next steps lie with the Regional Ministry, which has yet to determine which student groups will relocate to the new school. Although some teachers from existing schools are expected to transfer, additional staff will be needed.

Key logistical issues, including cleaning, canteen services, and transportation, also remain unresolved.
