The San Miguel Arcángel residents’ association has submitted 21 objections to the SUS-A Los Invernaderos Partial Plan amendment, which aims to increase housing density by building eight ground floor and seven higher-rise towers. The modification process is still ongoing, although construction has begun. Current regulations allow for ground floor, three-story buildings with an attic and 40% plot occupancy.
The residents’ group highlights that the plan will increase housing to 2,328 homes and add 5,820 inhabitants, significantly impacting public services like health, education, and infrastructure, which are already saturated. The current population of 6,798 could nearly double quickly, not counting non-registered residents.
They argue that housing should meet local needs, focusing on protected housing for young people and workers rather than the residential tourist market. The association advocates for sustainable population growth to maintain the quality of life and criticizes the project for proceeding without adhering to current regulations.
They demand a more inclusive approach, proper expansion of public services, and adherence to legal building models.
