The Ministry of Health is activating a system to warn the public when temperatures pose health risks, with alerts sent via mobile phone and email.

The system establishes minimum temperature thresholds for each province, and users will be alerted if these thresholds are about to be exceeded.

For Alicante, the threshold is 4.4ºC. Above this, there is no risk (Level 0). Below this level, there are three risk levels: 1 (low), 2 (medium), and 3 (high). Users subscribed to the service through the Ministry’s website will receive alerts, and information will also be available on the Ministry’s social media.

Weather forecasts are provided for five-day periods. For the first week of the plan (December 2-6), temperatures in Alicante are not expected to drop below the threshold, with the coldest day being December 5 (7.5ºC). These measures are part of the National Plan for Preventive Actions for Low Temperatures 2024-2025, activated on December 2.

The Ministry reminds us that cold can worsen chronic diseases, and in extreme cases, cause hypothermia or frostbite. Winter also sees more traffic accidents, falls due to ice, and carbon monoxide poisoning from gas stoves or braziers.
