Villena 3 – 1 CD Montesinos
by Stan Shand
On a sunny Sunday morning, the “Three Musketeers” embarked on an 80km journey to Villena. Despite the impressive 3,000-capacity ground, the pitch’s poor condition set the tone for a challenging match.
Early on, Monty struggled with missed passes and lack of concentration. Villena took the lead after just 12 minutes with a quick goal. Arturo’s penalty at 18 minutes brought Monty level, but an offside call annulled their 25th-minute goal. At halftime, the score was 1-1.
The second half saw continued poor performance from Monty. Villena scored again at 52 minutes, and despite Abdul’s substitution bringing some energy, the crossbar thwarted their efforts. Pablo saved a penalty at 63 minutes, but another penalty conceded at 77 minutes sealed Monty’s 3-1 defeat.
