Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport has set a new annual passenger record, reaching over 15.8 million passengers by October 2024. This marks a significant growth, with a 13.3% increase in October compared to the same month in 2023.
The airport outpaced other major Spanish airports, including Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona-El Prat, Palma de Mallorca, and Málaga-Costa del Sol in growth rate, although it still lags behind in absolute passenger numbers.
The record growth is primarily driven by international traffic, with passengers from the UK, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, and Norway leading the influx. Domestic traffic also saw a rise of 10.4%.
The airport handled 11,243 flights in October, a 13.1% increase from the previous year. With a total of 15,891,921 passengers handled from January to October 2024, the airport has already surpassed its total for 2023, growing by 16.5%.
