In July, Vox decided to break up all regional governments of which it was a part, due to the Popular Party’s (PP) acceptance of the central government’s distribution of immigrant minors. Santiago Abascal’s party has now raised the issue with town councils, conditioning its presence in local executives on a clear stance against illegal immigration. Orihuela is no exception.

In Orihuela, Vox has called for the expulsion of all illegal immigrants and the end of municipal grants to NGOs supporting them.

Deputy Mayor Manuel Mestre registered a motion to expel illegal immigrants and reject any new reception centres. Vox also proposes transferring immigrants to Brussels if they cannot be returned to their countries of origin.

The motion urges legislative changes to prevent fraud in the registration process, which Vox claims allows illegal immigrants to access social aid.

Orihuela Council recently approved 33,999.69 euros in grants to NGOs for immigration programs, despite Vox councillors voting against it.

Vox also argues that illegal immigration causes social and economic instability and increases crime, citing data from the National Institute of Statistics. They attribute the rise in immigration to the policies of the European Union and the Spanish government.
