Tourism Projects to Enhance Orihuela's Infrastructure

The Orihuela City Council’s Department of Tourism has recently awarded three projects aimed at improving the municipality’s tourist infrastructure and promoting sustainable tourism practices. These initiatives, funded by the Next Generation EU Recovery Plan, are designed to enhance the visitor experience and address the challenges posed by climate change.

Sustainable Cultural Itinerary

One of the awarded projects focuses on creating a sustainable cultural itinerary through Orihuela city. This initiative, led by EM4 Servicios de Ingeniería, S.L.P., aims to mitigate the effects of climate change by incorporating shaded areas along the route. By installing awnings in key tourist areas like Calle Miguel Hernández, Plaza Santa Lucía, and Calle Mayor, the project will provide relief from the sun and improve the overall comfort of visitors.

Energy-Efficient Public Lighting

Another project seeks to enhance energy efficiency in public lighting along the Orihuela coastline. RUNI-TEK Ingenieros, S.L. will be responsible for drafting plans to replace existing lighting fixtures with energy-saving LED lights in areas such as Punta Prima, Playa Flamenca, La Zenia, Cabo Roig, and Campoamor. This transition will not only reduce energy consumption but also contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly tourism model.

Urban Signage Renewal

The third project involves the renovation of urban signage in Orihuela Costa. Zen Ingeniería y Arquitectura, S.L. will develop a plan to improve public spaces and make it easier for visitors to navigate the area. By utilizing sustainable materials and integrating the signage into the urban landscape, the project aims to enhance the visitor experience and create a more welcoming environment.

These initiatives are part of the Orihuela City Council’s commitment to adapting to climate change, reducing energy consumption, and improving the overall image and perception of the destination for both residents and tourists. By investing in sustainable tourism infrastructure, the city is positioning itself as a responsible and attractive destination for visitors.
