Whilst towns like Torrevieja are seemingly unable to resolve the problem of an aging fleet of public buses, just down the road in Elche, the City Council continues its commitment to sustainable mobility and for this reason the mayor, Pablo Ruz, has visited the Solaris electric bus production plant in Poznan (Poland).

He went there with the Councillor for Mobility, Claudio Guilabert, and the Operations Manager of Avanza Elche, Ángel Luis Andreu, and they visited the facilities of the company that has manufactured the six new 100% electric vehicles that will be incorporated into the fleet of urban buses in Elche in October.

“These are buses that will be digitalised in the future, always keeping in mind comfort, mobility and making Elche a much more accessible city from the point of view of public service and transport” said Pablo Ruz, who also explained that the new vehicles have entailed an investment of 3,755,380 euro, subsidised by the European Next Generation funds to the tune of 1.2 million euro.

The new buses are 100% electric and come equipped with reversing sensors, tyre pressure monitoring, protection against cyberattacks, speed assistants, braking systems, fatigue detectors, emergency stop signals and a breathalyser with ignition interlock. All this to make the urban bus service more comfortable and safe for users, pedestrians and personnel operating in the fleet.

The operations manager of Avanza Elche, Ángel Luis Andreu, has highlighted that “with the incorporation of these six new vehicles we have achieved that 70% of the fleet is hybrid or 100% electric”, something that contributes to “the reduction of emissions of up to 80 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year”.
