The National Police have carried out the extradition of a fugitive from German justice at Alicante Elche Miguel Hernández Airport.

In Germany, the man stands accused of the crimes of kidnapping, illegal detention and hostage-taking, organised or armed robbery, blackmail and extortion of funds. He was located and arrested by the National Police last March in Rojales, where the fugitive was hiding after having modified his physical appearance to avoid being identified.

According to German authorities, the arrest warrant was based on events that took place in the German town of Hamm in August 2021, when the fugitive, along with three other co-perpetrators, all of them masked, forced open the door to the terrace of a home where its residents were sleeping in the early hours of the morning.

After entering the house, they went to the bedroom where the victims were sleeping and put a firearm to the man’s temple while covering his mouth and making him understand not to shout.

They then tied up the couple and put them in the bedroom’s walk-in closet, making them believe that they were going to burn down the house with them inside if they did not tell them where the safe was and did not give them the valuables. While they were committing the robbery and collecting the stolen items, another of the assailants intimidated the woman by putting scissors to her neck. She was injured with lacerations as a result.

The attackers eventually managed to steal two gold coins, 10 silver ingots, more than 4,000 euro in cash, a high-end watch valued at more than 20,000 euro and a safe, along with other valuable items. Before leaving the house, they locked their victims in a cupboard in the bedroom and, after asking them for petrol, threatened to burn down the house.

Once the European Arrest Warrant was received in Spain and, after further information was provided to the German authorities, police efforts began to locate him. The man was arrested in March when he was in a café in Rojales.

The fugitive was handed over by the National Police to the German authorities at Alicante airport. The police officers travelled in a twin-engine German police plane and took charge of the detainee, who was given strict security measures to prevent his escape, given that he had a history of clashing with German police special forces.

The detainee faces a prison sentence of nine years and three months.
