The mayor of Callosa de Segura, Manuel Martínez, has submitted a letter of resignation from the position, “for strictly personal and professional reasons.”

For the time being, according to municipal sources, the operation of the Callosa de Segura Town Hall “will continue as before”. The acting first deputy mayor, Trino Grau, or one of the two deputy mayors, will continue to serve as mayor.

Furthermore, “the intention and will of both the outgoing mayor and the Government team is that this situation of vacancy in the definitive Mayor’s Office be resolved as soon as possible, in order to begin the political year with a new mayor.”

The regulations provide that the extraordinary session for the election of a new mayor will be held, with the requirements established in the electoral legislation, within ten days following the acceptance of the resignation by the Plenary.

Manuel Martínez explains that he will remain in the PP, “I will remain in the Partido Popular as a grassroots member and always at its disposal, at the disposal of our leaders for absolutely anything they need from me.” And he has assured that ” I close this chapter of my life with a clear conscience, my head held high and the absolute conviction that I have given the best of myself. And I end as I began: with clean hands.”

Callosa de Segura is one of the numerous towns where the PP has been governing thanks to their collaboration with Vox since the beginning of the legislature, but in this case, in a minority. The PP obtained seven councillors in the elections of May 2023. Vox obtained one, while the PSOE obtained five councillors, UCÍN three and EU one. Since then, the controversies have been constant, from the first plenary session, that of salaries, where there was no agreement to approve the remuneration system until months after forming a government, until the last plenary session in May that ended up blowing up the political situation.
