The town of Teulada-Moraira continues to face a difficult situation due to the drought. Given the lack of drinking water, residents are having to collect bottles of drinking water at distribution points manned by local government employees.
The distribution began last Friday at two centres in the town which, due to the large influx of residents, the Council has now increased, adding two new points, in the municipal markets of both town centres.
Residents can now go to the Teulada market, which is held on Wednesday mornings, or to the Moraira market, which operates on Friday mornings. These points are added to those already in place at the Teulada football pitch and the Moraira sports centre track, where drinking water tanks have been installed.
The collection of water bottles will take place from 8.30 in the morning to 14.30 in the afternoon, or until the stock of water bottles runs out, according to information provided by the local council.
In order to collect bottles of drinking water, the Council says that it is “essential” to present ID. Each subscriber can collect a maximum of 20 litres of drinking water from the tanks or three bottles from the distribution points per week.
Other collection points will open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., while during the next week, Teulada will open its collection point from Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., while Moraira will do the same every day except Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Teulada-Moraira is not the only municipality that has been forced to distribute bottles of water among its residents. The lack of drinking water in Benitatxell has led the town council to do the same. Municipal services began distributing water last Friday morning.
Restrictions due to drought and high salinity of tap water forced the municipality to take measures on August 9, with residents forming long queues at points set up to obtain drinking water.
