The Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC), which is responsible for awarding Blue Flags, has recently carried out an inspection of Orihuela’s beaches. Following the evaluation, ADEAC congratulated the councillor for the coast for the Lifeguard Service on the beaches of Orihuela Costa.
In addition, ADEAC has made recommendations and suggestions to improve the beaches of Orihuela, with the aim of continuing to improve the services and facilities.
Manuel Mestre, Councillor for Costa, expressed his satisfaction with the results of the inspection: “This year we are happy with the results which all the beaches of Orihuela Costa have passed, because they have congratulated the Rescue Service provided by Ambumar. We have a long-standing working relationship with them and we are very happy with their performance”.
Nacho Lorente, coordinator of Ambumar’s lifeguard and rescue service, detailed the capabilities of the current service: “We have a rapid intervention vehicle, two ambulances, advanced and basic life support, as well as rescue motorbikes and a 6-metre zodiac, ensuring an effective response to any emergency both aquatic and terrestrial in the vicinity.”
Lorente further highlighted the team’s commitment: “Our main work is prevention and rescue in the aquatic environment, but we also provide assistance in areas close to the beach. We strive to raise public awareness about safety in these environments, where our lifeguards often face challenging situations.”
The lifeguard and lifeguard service is operational from 15 June every day from 10:00 to 19:00 until 1 July. Thereafter, the hours are extended from 10:00 to 20:00 until 15 September.
In high season, the beaches of Orihuela have two jet skis with rescue skipper, a rapid intervention vehicle, two ambulances (one advanced life support and one basic life support), a rescue Zodiac, 27 lifeguards, 3 skippers, 4 assistants, 3 emergency technicians and a nurse. In addition, points have been set up to facilitate bathing for people with reduced mobility.
This commendation demonstrates the quality of the service provided, and also reaffirms the joint effort of all those involved in maintaining Orihuela’s beaches as a reference point for safety and accessibility for locals and visitors.
