One of the largest transport and logistics companies in the south of the Valencian Community, Transportes Perea, based in the Orihuela district of San Bartolomé, is close to bankruptcy: the five companies that make up the group are in liquidation while they wait for the sale of their main production unit to be completed which would save the company’s activity.

Otherwise, it’s days may be numbered, which would leave behind a history of more than 60 years, a workforce of over 300 employees and 45 million euros in turnover.

In June the Perea group put the companies that make up the business conglomerate up for bankruptcy: Agencia de Transportes San Bartolomé, Dalias Transport, Inversiones Alipe, Diuno Events, Pérea SL, Sertall, Transportes Oriol and Transportes Fruteros, with the aim of putting the company’s production unit up for sale. Currently there is an offer on the table from a company based in Almería that could continue the business.

The bankruptcy revolves around non-payments due to leasing contracts for the acquisition and operation of trucks, and debts with banks. The figures range between 816,000 euros from Dalias Transport (63 employees); 850,000 euros from Transportes Oriol (47 employees); 737,000 euros from Transportes Fruteros (44 employees); 894,990.03 euros from the San Bartolomé Transport Agency; 850,344 euros from Sertall and 931,604 euros from Perea S L.

According to the sources, there seem to be two reasons that have led the Perea conglomerate of companies to this situation. On the one hand, the national and international transport of refrigerated goods, which, apparently, has suffered a lot of turbulence since the post-pandemic; and on the other, the departure of a former manager, who also took with him several executives of the company. Since the bankruptcy situation broke out, there has also been a flight of employees to other companies.

Despite this, Perea has always been a very active player in the transport sector; a company that has boasted of its achievements and milestones; visits to fairs and all the improvements in the provision of the service. Particularly significant was the acquisition of 100 latest-generation MAN brand trucks that the company announced in 2021.
