The Valencia region’s tourism department is planning the promotional strategy for the region aimed at its main foreign tourist market, the United Kingdom, with an eye on the expected growth of the British market for the next winter season and opening of Valencia and Castellón airports to British tourist operators.
To do this, the minister for Innovation, Industry, Trade and Tourism, Nuria Montes, has travelled to Leeds to meet with the management team of the tourist operator Jet2holidays, whose airline has positioned itself as one of the most important in the country and that in 2023 it transported more than one million passengers in the Valencian Community, which generated an economic impact of more than 200 million euro in the GDP of the region.
After the meeting, Montes stated that Jet2holidays “wants to continue expanding its activity with the entry of its tour operator in Valencia and Castellón after consolidating its 11 flights from Alicante”.
In this sense, the minister highlighted that “the two airports are already in our sights to be able to grow our collaboration with Jet2holidays and expand its business portfolio throughout the territory of the Valencian Community”.
Likewise, the head of Tourism recalled that “Jet2holidays generates more than 1,500 direct and indirect jobs in the Valencian Community”, and added that the Alicante base, which has already been open for 20 years, “will continue to be crucial for the operations of the company, especially for its holiday routes to destinations on the Costa Blanca”.
According to the results of the first half of the year, the United Kingdom remains the most important international sending market of tourists for the Valencian Community, with the arrival of 1,419,811 Britons until June, 18.7% more than in 2023.
In addition, it is the market that has contributed the most to the increase in foreign spending accumulated in the Valencian Community, disbursing 1,6 billion euro during the first six months of the year, 33% more than in the same semester of previous year
