Grupo Caliche 2 v. Daya Nueva 1
Daya started the better of the two sides but both teams looked lethargic probably they were still feeling the effects of too much turkey and Christmas pudding !!
Day went very close following a free kick on six minutes, the ball just going over the crossbar. The home side were finding their feet a little more as the game reached fifteen minutes but it was still a very poor game.
On eighteen minutes Daya put together a good attack but Josue’s shot was poor and the keeper made an easy save. It had become a pretty nondescript game by now with both sides guilty of some awful play. Daya did have the ball in the Caliche net but Franki was ruled offside! This let off for the home side saw them go straight down to Daya’s end and forced Kepe into making a good save.
There were signs that Daya were beginning to get their act together and might even score a goal but that would have to be in the second half as it was 0-0 at the break. Caliche came out for the second period looking as if they meant business. They had Daya defending in numbers but there was no real goal threat from them. The game returned to its mundane pace with neither side playing well.
On sixty minutes Daya won a corner, Miguel jumped the highest and his thumping header gave Daya the lead. This goal gave Daya a big boost and a second goal should surely give them all the points ! Then on sixty eight minutes disaster struck, Daya conceded a penalty which was converted with ease for 1-1.
Now it was Caliche who fancied their chances of a winning goal as the pendulum swung back their way. On eighty minutes Daya failed to defend a long throw and a simple header at the far post made it 2-1 to the home side.
So final score was a 2-1 defeat for the visitors in a game that neither side really played well enough to win by right. Yes Daya were without a number of key players but should have been able, with the players out there today to see off a poor Caliche side. All in all a very disappointing performance and result.
