The students of Mojácar’s Music School recently gave a Christmas concert as part of the town’s programme of festive events. The guitar group, along with the preliminary students, School choir and the ‘mini’ Municipal Band, performed a selection of pieces they have been studying, not forgetting to include the popular songs and Christmas carols that the public always love to hear. Also, some of the students’ parents played for the first time along with their children, having joined them on their musical learning adventure.
Mojácar´s Music School was founded 25 years ago with only 20 students and, currently has almost 200 students and Band members aged between 3 and 70 years old, although countless more have passed through its classrooms since it all began. There are four teachers at the School, offering classes at elementary and intermediate level for any instrument, be it string, wind or percussion, as well as preparation for the entrance exam to Almería’s Conservatory of Music. Most members of the Municipal Music Band have trained at Mojácar’s School, which also runs a range of dance classes.
Raquel Belmonte, Mojácar’s Councillor for Young people, attended the traditional Christmas concert with the Education Councillor, Ana Garcia and, expressed her delighted at the students’ progress adding “the School and its teachers, are prepared for every type of students at all levels.” There are specific study plans starting with beginners classes for those of three to five years old. At six, the children can select their chosen instrument, leading to preparatory classes at age seven when they can select from a variety of subjects to study.
Anyone who is interested in learning, whatever their age, has the opportunity to attend Mojácar’s Municipal Music School and easily access the wonderful world of music in a fun and entertaining way.
