On Friday 18th November Montgo Golf Society played a medal competition at Oliva Nova for the St Andrews day Trophy, kindly sponsored by Ed Wallace. A full house of forty members completed in what is effectively our final major competition before the season ends at our annual prize giving, and the super slick Oliva Nova greens ensured the winner would have to fight for the lovely crystal trophy.
In first place, with a net 73 off 17.7, was a delighted Gordon Gleeson. Second place went to Francien Knoops (12.2) with a net 74, pushing this years “order of merit” winner John Day (12.4) in to third place on countback. Fourth place was claimed by a very brave Keith Cotterell with a net 75 off 22.4, who pushed his wife Sally out of the prizes, also on countback.
There were four nearest the pins on offer, with John Snelling taking the 3rd, Russ Peters the 5th, Keith Cotterell the 16th, and Michel grin the 18th. There were just two 2’s on the day, scored by Linda Coe and Michel Grin. Finally, in the final of the Singles Knockout, Denise Cooper beat Brian Barden 4 and 3.
Our next event is on Friday 2nd December when we will be playing for the Totalcare Champions Cup at Oliva Nova, sponsored by John and Mary Feek. This competition is open to all members who have won an individual society competition during 2016, and with no less than thirty played qualified it promises to be a fierce contest.
There will be a separate competition for members who have not qualified. Guests are welcome, subject to availability and current handicap certificate, and should register by visiting the website at www.montgogolfsociety.net and completing an online booking form
