Rosmari Cano, The Mayor of Mojácar, represented the town by attending the solemn Mass celebrated in the Parish Church of San Joaquin de Garrucha. The event was organized by the leaders of the town’s Guardia Civil to celebrate the festivity of Virgen del Pilar.
The Mass was officiated by the parish priest Don Domingo Navarrete and, also in attendance with Rosmari Cano, was Maria Lopez Cervantes, the Mayor of Garrucha. Also present were representatives from all walks of life within the town including various Hermandades (Brotherhoods), the Fishermen’s Association, Justices of the Peace, as well as senior officers from the Garrucha Guardia Civil.
Others who joined the Guardia Civil on their special day were; the Head of Mojácar Local Police, representatives from the National Police and the Legión, along with various judicial and public officials.
The Guardia Civil coat of arms and floral tributes were symbolically placed before the image of the Virgen del Pilar, Patron Saint of the Guardia Civil. After the solemn Mass, a meal provided by the Municipalities of Mojácar and Garrucha was offered to attendees at the Garrucha Cultural Centre.
The Guardia Civil in Garrucha has seventy officers working in various units spanning many different services, who have direct responsibility for many of the municipalities in the Levante Almeriense.
