Last Tuesday, the Orihuela Town Council held the 1st Conference on Truancy at the La Lonja Auditorium, receiving an ‘excellent reception’ from participants and members of the educational community, according to he Councillor for Education Vicente Pina.
The event was attended by Regional Secretary for Education Daniel McEvoy, head of the Education Inspectorate Mariano García, inspectors from various educational levels in Orihuela, CEFIRE director Susana Miralles, school management teams, teachers, and educational counsellors.
Vicente Pina emphasized the success of focusing on truancy and involving all related agents to address the issue effectively. He highlighted the collaboration between the departments of Education, Social Welfare, and Public Safety, along with school management teams, educational guidance, inspection units, the Local Police’s Minors Unit, and Social Services.
The first edition of the event saw nearly 200 participants from cities including Cartagena, Murcia, Valencia, Sagunto, Almoradí, Callosa de Segura, Pego, Petrer, Campello, Molina de Segura, and Elche.
Organized by Orihuela City Council in collaboration with the Department of Education, CEFIRE, University of Alicante, and other educational institutions, the conference aimed to provide a comprehensive and multidisciplinary perspective on truancy, exploring its causes and the best strategies for prevention and effective action.
