Torrevieja City Council has approved the basic and execution project to develop four municipal plots into large park-and-ride car parks, creating a total of 3,937 parking spaces across several areas of the municipality.
The project represents a total investment of €3,618,541, including VAT. The estimated completion period for the works, signage and full adaptation of the sites is five months, with work to be carried out simultaneously on all four plots.
The initiative forms part of the council’s strategy to improve urban mobility, make parking easier and reduce traffic congestion in the busiest parts of the city, particularly in the town centre.
Four Car Parks with Almost 4,000 Spaces
The four municipal plots included in the project are:
Plot 1: Avenida de la Estación
This site will provide 255 spaces, including 243 standard spaces and 12 spaces for people with reduced mobility. The investment allocated to this plot is €614,852.30.
Plot 2: Avenida Ramón del Valle Inclán – Torreta
A total of 213 spaces will be created here, including 205 standard spaces and eight adapted spaces. The investment for this site is €549,569.50.
Plot 3: Calle Juan Valera – CV-905
This plot will offer 758 spaces, comprising 738 standard spaces and 20 spaces for people with reduced mobility. The planned investment is €1,213,641.27.
Plot 4: Avenida Delfina Viudes – Parque Antonio Soria
The largest of the four car parks will provide 2,711 spaces, including 2,696 standard spaces and 15 adapted spaces. The investment allocated to this site is €117,363.22.
In total, the project will create 3,882 conventional parking spaces and 55 adapted spaces for people with reduced mobility, establishing a high-capacity network of park-and-ride facilities in Torrevieja.
Site Preparation and Environmental Improvements
The works will include the full preparation of the sites, including clearing, levelling and compacting the ground. Different surfaces will be installed for access roads and parking areas, along with rainwater drainage systems and horizontal and vertical signage.
The car parks will also be equipped with LED lighting towers, adapted access points, marked parking bays, electrical installations and safety features to ensure the facilities are functional, accessible and secure.
A Strategic Commitment to Mobility
Torrevieja City Council said the project represents a significant step forward in its traffic management and urban improvement strategy. The new car parks are designed to absorb a substantial proportion of surface parking demand and improve access to the city.
The council expects the park-and-ride facilities to ease pressure on the most congested areas while contributing to more efficient, organised and sustainable mobility, in line with the city’s continued growth and the needs of both residents and visitors.
