Asoka Orihuela is organising a new charity dog-walking and adoption event to give greater visibility to dogs currently living at the municipal animal shelter.
The event will take place on Sunday, May 17, at the Orihuela Animal Protection Centre in San Bartolomé, and will include guided walks with shelter dogs as well as information sessions for people interested in adoption, fostering or sponsorship.
The animal welfare association, which manages Orihuela’s municipal animal shelter, said the initiative is designed to bring residents closer to the work carried out at the centre and to encourage more people to consider giving a home to abandoned animals.
The event will be held at the shelter facilities on Camino Lo Arques s/n, in the Orihuela district of San Bartolomé. Participation costs €5 as a donation, with all proceeds going directly towards the care and maintenance of animals housed at the refuge.
During the day, participants will have the opportunity to walk some of the centre’s dogs and get to know both the animals and the day-to-day work of the association. Organisers will also provide practical information on the adoption process, as well as options for fostering or sponsoring animals.
Asoka Orihuela says these activities are especially valuable because they help improve the dogs’ socialisation and allow potential adopters to interact with them in a more relaxed and natural environment.
To make the event more accessible, several sessions have been scheduled. Two sessions in Spanish will take place at 10.15am and 11.30am, while an English-language session will be held at 11.00am.
Advance registration is required. Anyone wishing to take part should email asokaorihuela@gmail.com.
