Torrevieja, April 27, 2026 — Torrevieja City Council has installed eight new planters along the Juan Aparicio seafront promenade following a technical safety review of existing palm trees.

The action, carried out by the Parks and Gardens Department, forms part of routine urban tree inspections aimed at ensuring public safety. Several palm trees identified as posing a potential risk were removed to prevent possible incidents.

To maintain the visual appeal of one of the town’s busiest and most iconic coastal areas—particularly during the spring and summer tourist season—the council has temporarily replaced the removed trees with planters containing Mediterranean dwarf palms (Chamaerops humilis). The species was chosen for its durability, low maintenance, and strong adaptation to coastal urban environments.

The installation preserves the promenade’s green aesthetic while authorities assess longer-term landscaping solutions. The Juan Aparicio promenade remains a key gathering point in Torrevieja, and the council says it will continue improvements to ensure the area is safe, attractive, and welcoming for residents and visitors alike.
