Orihuela, December 12, 2025 – The Orihuela Chamber of Commerce has called for increased high-speed train services at Orihuela-Miguel Hernández station and the duplication of the CV-95 road, arguing that both improvements are essential to ensure the new Alicante-Elche-Murcia corridor benefits the Vega Baja region.
The request follows the CNMC’s authorization of additional OUIGO services along the corridor, effective December 14, which will add more trains and stops passing through Orihuela. Chamber president Mario Martínez emphasized that enhancing rail connectivity must go hand-in-hand with better road access. “Without improved road connections to our station, it will not be profitable for high-speed operators,” he said.
Martínez urged the Generalitat Valenciana to prioritize the duplication of the CV-95, which would allow safe and efficient access from Orihuela Costa and surrounding areas to the station. He also called on the national government and train operators to increase train frequencies and stops in Orihuela, aligning services with local demand.
The Chamber stressed that expanding high-speed services will only have a meaningful impact if internal bottlenecks are addressed. Improved rail and road links, Martínez argued, would generate more visitors, investment, jobs, and a fairer distribution of economic opportunities in the region.
“Orihuela does not ask for privileges; it demands objective criteria,” Martínez concluded. “Where there is population, economic activity, and potential demand—as in Vega Baja—there must be high-capacity rail and adequate roads. If we connect the region properly, trains will fill up, benefiting operators, businesses, and citizens alike.”
