A body has been discovered during the ongoing search for missing British man Marc Tulloch Hewson, aged 63, who was last seen in Torrevieja on Saturday, 20 September.
The discovery was made on Tuesday morning in a wooded area behind homes near Lago Jardín, close to the salt lake, where officers from the Guardia Civil and local volunteers have spent several weeks conducting coordinated searches.
Marc’s wife, Catherine, and his sister, Fiona, who travelled from the UK to assist, were among the 20 to 25 volunteers taking part. Under the supervision of the Guardia Civil, search teams were organised to cover the surrounding terrain systematically.

At this stage, the body has not been formally identified, although personal belongings found at the scene suggest it may be Marc. DNA samples provided by his sister are being used to assist with the identification process.
Authorities have yet to issue an official confirmation. The family has expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Guardia Civil, volunteers, and members of the public who supported the search, describing the discovery as “the worst possible outcome, but one that brings a measure of peace after weeks of uncertainty.”
Marc was last seen leaving Torrevieja Hospital in a confused state. The search, now in its fourth week, has drawn strong community support from both local residents and fellow Britons living in the area.
It is with deep sadness that we share this news. Our thoughts are with Catherine, Fiona, and all of Marc’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. The family has asked for privacy as they come to terms with their loss.
They also wish to thank everyone who helped in the search, shared information, and offered support — your compassion and kindness have meant so much.
