San Javier, Spain — The General Air Force Academy (AGA) marked Armed Forces Day with a solemn flag-raising ceremony held yesterday in Puerta del Mar Square, Santiago de la Ribera. Though the national holiday is officially observed today, the local event drew a strong turnout from both military personnel and civilians.
Presiding over the ceremony were Colonel Luis Felipe González Asenjo, Director of the AGA, and San Javier Mayor José Miguel Luengo. They were joined by local military commanders, municipal representatives, and a formation of AGA cadets. Dozens of local residents gathered for the occasion, showing their support and appreciation for the armed forces.
A special moment came with the attendance of students from the nearby Fulgencio Ruiz School, who witnessed the flag being raised in what became the emotional centerpiece of the event. Colonel González and Mayor Luengo conducted a review of the assembled troops before delivering brief but heartfelt remarks. Both speakers underscored the significance of honoring the dedication and service of Spain’s military forces.
The national flag was then raised to the stirring performance of the national anthem by the AGA’s Music Unit, which was met with enthusiastic applause from the crowd.
The ceremony concluded with a short military parade along Mar Menor Avenue, culminating as the contingent marched back toward the Air Force Academy grounds.
The event served as a meaningful tribute to the commitment and professionalism of Spain’s Armed Forces, reinforcing community ties with the nation’s military institutions.
