
La Vila Joiosa, May 28, 2025 – The 38th edition of the Costa Blanca Rugby Sevens took place this past weekend (May 24–25) at the La Vila Rugby Stadium, drawing eight men’s and eight women’s national and regional teams in one of Spain’s longest-running rugby sevens tournaments.
In the women’s competition, Poland’s national team claimed the title with a dominant 28–0 win over Team Costa Blanca, coached by current Spanish national coach María Ribera. The Polish side, competing in the second tier of the World Rugby Sevens Series, showcased their international experience with a commanding performance.
On the men’s side, the Euskarians, a Basque-French select squad featuring several professional players from France’s top leagues, defeated Lithuania in a close-fought final, 26–17, to lift the trophy.
The tournament featured a high level of competition, with strong showings from teams like Alcatraz from Venezuela, who secured third place in the men’s division.

Following the finals, local Sports Councilor Pedro Lloret led the awards ceremony. Both champions received €2,000, while runners-up took home €500, for a total prize pool of €5,000, distributed equally between men’s and women’s competitions.
The matches were streamed live on Nostresport TV’s YouTube channel, bringing international rugby action to fans online.
About the Event
Organized by the Costa Blanca Rugby Club, the tournament is dedicated to promoting rugby sevens in Alicante province. The club also organizes the Costa Blanca Beach Rugby tournament.
